Provide at least 10 pipe diameters of straight pipe upstream. For a DN40 line that equals 400 mm of clean straight run before the meter. Provide at least 5 pipe diameters downstream. If the only available spot is close to a 90 degree elbow, move the meter or add a flow straightener. In practice, most installers skip this step. We have seen low readings on customer sites caused by turbulence from elbows and valves.
Install the meter horizontally with the dial or sensor body upright. Some installers mount it vertically on a riser. That works if flow goes upward and the line stays full. Do not install it with the sensor facing down where sediment can settle.

Use shielded twisted pair cable for runs longer than 15 meters. Ground the shield at the controller end only. Do not run the pulse cable in the same conduit as 230 V or 400 V pump cables.
Here is the thing. Most engineers skip the shielded cable on short runs. We have seen installations work for a few months without shielded cable. Then a variable frequency drive starts and the controller logs ghost pulses. Those ghost pulses become false high flow alarms. A shielded cable costs little and fixes most noise problems.
